Health and Education: Creating Water & Food Security

Most countries located in West Africa have difficulties in supplying clean drinking water to all its citizens, especially in the northern regions and more importantly during the dry season. The lack of water makes it next to impossible to grow crops during this time and many times the available water is riddled with potentially dangerous parasites. These parasites cause a variety of ailments, mainly Guinea Worm and River Blindness. These diseases make it difficult for farmers to maintain their crops and for children to attend school. Education is not available for many children due to the reluctance of teachers to live in such harsh conditions. UTAP’s aim is to create a positive domino effect beginning with water security and ending with quality education.
